Lidl’s low cost sensible house tech is nice for Google, however do not be too completely satisfied in the event you personal an Echo

If you want to equip your home or apartment with smart lightbulbs or smart plugs, it can be difficult knowing where to start. Fortunately, Lidl might have the answer. Bargain supermarket Supremo is now trying this in-home technology with the introduction of its new range of very cheap smart devices.

The Lidl Smart Home range includes color-changing light bulbs, light strips and even a smart plug that allows you to remotely control existing devices such as lamps, kettles and more. Prices for all of these technologies start at just £ 7.99, which is pretty good value compared to the competition. In addition to the lamps and the plug, there is also the so-called Smart Home Gateway.

This allows users to control several aspects of their home through the ‘Lidl Home’ app, including the colorful new smart lighting. This application is free for iPhone, iPad and Android and offers various useful functions including timer programs, countdowns and automatic on / off settings for sunset and sunrise so that the lights come on at night and wake you up in the morning.

If you’ve never immersed yourself in smart home technology, Lidl offers a Smart Lights Starter Kit for just € 39.99. This includes three dimmable light bulbs and a remote control.

As part of the range, Lidl is also bringing individual lighting onto the market that is compatible with other intelligent brand systems from just 7.99 euros. This allows users to create mood, atmosphere or a full light show. The range includes:

Single dimmable color changing light bulb (£ 9.99)

Single dimmable lightbulb (£ 7.99)

2m light strip (£ 14.99)

Ceiling light (£ 34.99)

While it’s great that you can turn on the lights, change the color for the movie night, and set everything to gradually turn on as the sun goes down, the Lidl kit gets even smarter if you already have a Google smart speaker in the House.

If you have a Google Nest device, the new Lidl smart lights work seamlessly, so you can dim the lights or turn on the kettle by simply shouting the words “Hey Google”.

This is great news, but unfortunately, Amazon owners are going to miss this out. Lidl has confirmed on its website that its smart technology will not work with Amazon Echo. It is unclear why this is the case, as Lidl’s products are compatible with the Zigbee platform. This technology is now in most recently released Echo speakers, so it’s weird that the lights and plugs don’t respond to Alexa.

If this issue doesn’t affect you, Lidl’s Smart Gateway range will be launched in stores on December 6th and will be available while supplies last.
