I’ve by no means met Richa Moorjani: “Kamala’s type is nearly a mirrored image of my very own type”

Mindy Kalings I have never has become a hit, and along with the show, stars like Richa Moorjani, who plays Devi’s cousin Kamala, have it too. There were many things in season one that spoke to me personally as an Indian, and I know I wasn’t the only South Asian woman looking forward to finally seeing some sort of representation of our culture on TV. With season two coming out on Netflix, I spoke to the actress to learn more about her role on the series and her character’s screen style.

“What we wear usually has a huge impact on how we feel and how we are seen in the world … especially as an immigrant or a woman of color living in the US.”

“We see Kamala in a lab coat half the time in season two, but underneath she is always impeccably dressed thanks to our fabulous costume designer Salvador Perez,” Richa told POPSUGAR. “Kamala has always been the type of woman who doesn’t care too much about her style and doesn’t try to be trendy, but she is always at home together tunic) and that even in western clothing there was always an element of her culture, be it through ethnic prints on the fabric or accessories. “
