The “Camp” theme of the 2019 Met Gala still had a prominent influence on many of this year’s attendees, but many of those who understood the Met Gala 2021’s mission “In America” took inspiration from some of the most influential stars in history. Similar to the way Yara Shahidi appeared from head to toe in a Josephine Baker-inspired Dior outfit, model Anok Yai also nodded to the entertainer and civil rights activist of the 1920s. In a figure-hugging dress by Oscar de La Renta from the spring 2022 collection, Anok posed on the steps of the Costume Institute and radiated the glamor of “Old Hollywood”. While Anok and Yara’s outfits couldn’t have been more different, both paid an honorable homage to the Jazz Age star.
Dubbed the “Skimming Celestial Crystal Gown” on Oscar de La Renta’s Instagram page, the dress features a plunging neckline and crystal patterns in the shape of flowers and stars. Stylist Carlos Nazario paired the look with Giuseppe Zanotti heels, matching black opera gloves and an oversized scarf full of black feathers that Anok effortlessly pulled off. Looking left or right, the model nailed every single pose and looked like a star of its own from every angle. Be enchanted by Anok’s crystal-covered dress and impeccable poses.
