I requested 5 ladies: what does magnificence imply?

0

I’ve loved everything to do with fashion and beauty for as long as I can remember. As a child, I looted my mother’s vanity (sometimes I still do!), Donned red lipstick and heavy eyeshadow, put on my glittery red Dorothy shoes, and marched around the house. This happened on most of the weekends. Fast forward over 20 years, and now I work in the beauty field. I know what a lot of people think of the industry. They say it’s superficial, it’s all glamor and not truth. Sure, there is a bit of glamor. There are expensive treatments, fancy products, and everything in between. But there is so much more to it than that.

I’ve always metabolized beauty as a form of self-care. It gives me the freedom to explore other parts of myself without making permanent changes (at least for the most part). It makes me express myself in a way that words cannot articulate. It’s about the feeling it gives me – the same thing I had as a kid – and the trust it gives me. It’s about the community: talking to people with different points of view, getting advice and exchanging tips and product recommendations. For the people who let beauty in, it’s so much more than just the products.

Below, five women share their definition of beauty, from their point of view and approach to their gratitude for products that help them feel safe in their own skin. Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique Face Serum ($ 105) tops each of them, strengthening the skin barrier with just one drop and promising healthy, glowing skin in a week.

How is your relationship with skin care?

Acne has been a long-standing problem for me since puberty. I have gone through some dramatic ups and downs with my skin which prompted me to adopt a full skin care routine earlier than most. With so much information out there, you can feel like you have to try absolutely every hyped product and ingredient available. Now that I’m older, I feel a lot smarter about my skin. I know that moisture isn’t necessarily the devil for oily skin and that sunscreen is key.

What’s your definition of beauty? What does beauty mean to you?

I see beauty as a holistic concept. Of course, it’s the make-up, skin care and hair products, but also the inside. Everyone has their own style of beauty, and it’s a lot more interesting and cool to stick to your own portrayal of beauty instead of listening to what others think.

What do you like best about the Advanced Génifique Face Serum and how does it help you to feel more confident in your skin?

I really love it when I can stick to a constant routine. Not only is routine so much better for my skin, it also helps me ground myself amid constant responsibility and to-dos. This serum is really a highlight in my daily care ritual. It can be applied wonderfully and immediately gives my skin a well-groomed feeling. I’m not going to say that I’m always faithful to all of my routines, but if I put my skin care products on every day, my skin will ultimately change for the better. When my skin looks good, I feel good.

How is your relationship with skin care?

I love skin care! I have more to discover, but it’s so great to see a real difference to a new product or regimen. I consider my skin care routine as part of my bedtime ritual. It’s one last little chance to give back to myself before the day is over.

What’s your definition of beauty? What does beauty mean to you?

As I got older, I felt more truth in the idea that beauty is how you feel and less how you look. I think it is nice to have confidence in your own skin. It is a privilege to age so I try to look at the things that come with the territory, like wrinkles and age spots, as signs of wisdom.

What do you like best about the Advanced Génifique Face Serum and how does it help you to feel more confident in your skin?

One of my favorite things about the serum is the glow that I saw in just a few days. It makes my skin smooth and glowing. Since my skin naturally gets drier with age, I really appreciate the amount of moisture. My favorite hack is to use it on my lips to smooth them out before I apply lip color. Since I don’t usually give my lips the same love of skin care as I do my face, pampering them a little is a fun step before lipstick.

How is your relationship with skin care?

The women in my family have pretty great skin, so I’ve always taken my good skin for granted. Then bam! I was in my 30s and I could no longer rely on genes alone. Now I am very careful about what happens on my skin and I take pride in taking care of it.

What’s your definition of beauty? What does beauty mean to you?

There are so many types of beauty that it is really hard to come up with a definition of them. When I think of beauty in a person, I think of their attitudes, self-confidence, behavior, and how they treat others.

What do you like best about the Advanced Génifique Face Serum and how does it help you to feel more confident in your skin?

I started using the serum at night and love the way my skin feels in the morning – hydrated. It’s really important to feel confident in your most natural skin, and this serum does just that.

How is your relationship with skin care?

I grew up with oily, acne-ridden skin, but now that I’m older, my skin is getting drier every year. For the past five years, I’ve been obsessed with putting on every type of moisturizer to achieve this dewy look. It’s funny that my younger me always wanted a completely matte face, but these days I tend to have a natural glow. I am very careful with my skin care routine and prefer a simple and easy routine that is my key to consistent skin care regimen.

What’s your definition of beauty? What does beauty mean to you?

The past year has taught me that self-care is so important and doesn’t have to look like a spa day. Personally, I feel most comfortable when I can move my body, read a book, hang out with my husband, and eat nutritious food. For me, beauty means taking care of yourself, slowing down, loving who you are, and consistently working on yourself emotionally, mentally and physically.

What do you like best about the Advanced Génifique Face Serum and how does it help you to feel more confident in your skin?

The pump! Can every serum and oil have such a pump? Every time I use it, I know I am putting the perfect amount on my face. And the serum itself is so moisturizing. I use it on my lips and dab a little all over my face throughout the day. I can apply my foundation without it feeling sticky or pilling, and it won’t stick to dry spots as the serum basically rubbed it off. It really gives me that dewy look that makes me look radiant, and I’m so grateful for it on the days that I want to wear makeup but don’t want it to dry out my face.

How is your relationship with skin care?

I really love my skin care routine very much. I perceive it as a form of self-care. Every morning and evening my skin and I get in on it and I really enjoy it. To be honest, I’d say we’re best friends.

What’s your definition of beauty? What does beauty mean to you?

This is a tough question. I think for me, beauty starts from within. When you are a good person, have a good personality, treat people well, then beauty begins. But beauty is on the outside too, so I think that loving your skin, appreciating yourself, and feeling confident also makes you beautiful on the outside.

What do you like best about the Advanced Génifique Face Serum and how does it help you to feel more confident in your skin?

I love the way the serum is applied to my skin. It’s so smooth and soft and makes my skin look amazing and extra radiant, which is what I’m looking for in a product. Personally, when my skin looks good, feels good, and has that bright, youthful glow, I am ready to embrace the day (and the world). I just feel a lot more confident.
