The latest update for Windows 10 can now be downloaded on all PCs worldwide. The Windows 10 May 2021 Update is the first of two planned upgrades to be released for Windows 10 users this year. Unlike previous years when both the spring and fall upgrades were full of new features, updated designs, and performance improvements, this year Microsoft is trying something different. Unfortunately, this new plan means that the Windows 10 May 2021 update is a little flawed.
This is because the update, slated to be released later this year, supposedly sometime in October 2021, marks the biggest visual overhaul to Windows 10 since the popular desktop operating system launched in 2015. Codenamed Sun Valley in Microsoft’s October update will include redesigned icons for every system menu and file explorer item, there are brand new features – like the ability to instantly pair with Bluetooth earbuds like Apple AirPods and more.
Unfortunately, with all of its efforts to retool and redesign every inch of Windows 10 before the fall deadline, Microsoft didn’t have many exciting new tidbits on hand for the Windows 10 May 2021 update.
Of course, it’s always important to be running the latest version of the operating system, especially when working at home with customer data, confidential files, and more. Microsoft always includes the latest security and privacy features in these updates. So be sure to install the update – even if there isn’t a shiny new app that can be tested inside.

Elsewhere, the May 10, 2021 Windows update also includes some under the hood improvements. It provides external camera support for the Windows Hello facial recognition system. So if you’re using a USB webcam for improved video call quality, you can log into your computer with a quick glance.
Microsoft has also updated its Windows Defender Application Guard. The latter is a nifty feature that allows users to open suspicious files or applications in a fully isolated virtualized container. This increases security even if the app turns out to be a virus. It cannot access important files, applications, and more that are actually stored on your hard drive. According to Microsoft, opening documents from suspicious emails should feel noticeably faster in Windows Defender Application Guard.
