Spam calls are on the rise. According to RoboKiller, a popular phone app that blocks them, the number of spam calls received in the US has increased 26% over the past year.

Most of these spam calls were vehicle vehicle guarantees. Others are health insurance talks and vacation scams, according to RoboKiller. I get a mix of these all the time, mostly vehicle warranty flavor, but they are easy to block.

You can use apps like RoboKiller, which are rated very highly on Apple’s App Store. However, depending on the plan and service, they cost around $ 3.99 per month.

Or you can do what I do and just send unknown numbers straight to voicemail.

This feature was introduced for iPhones a few years ago. Turn it on and your phone won’t even ring when you get a call from an unknown number. If it’s someone whose number you don’t have in your address book, like a doctor, they can always leave you a message.

Send robocalls and spammers directly to voicemail by checking Silence Unknown Callers.

Here’s how to set that up.

  • Open the settings on your iPhone.
  • Select the “Telephone” option.
  • Select Mute Unknown Callers.
  • Toggle the button next to “Mute unknown callers” to “On”.

That’s it. Your phone will continue to ring if the caller is in your contacts. If not, it will be forwarded to voicemail.
