Finally, curves are the star of Christian Siriano’s spring runway

For his 40th collection, Christian Siriano started the spring shows 2022 at New York Fashion Week with the catwalk we had hoped for. The designer brought in his upbeat glam when we needed it most, giving us neon colors, denim, dramatic evening wear and a catwalk full of beautiful different styles to celebrate a new season – and maybe a new start for fashion. If looking at 2021 meant rethinking the future of fashion, design for 2022 brings it to fruition – and who better to cite this than Siriano, an advocate of diversity and the talent behind the looks we at Beyoncé, Zendaya and Amanda Gorman, and loved more of the most formidable women in the world.

The Spring ’22 Show was, unsurprisingly, a hit with celebrities, drawing names like longtime muse Coco Rocha and Lil ‘Kim, who sat in the front row in a specially rosetted Siriano creation to support his collection. On the catwalk, Precious Lee opened the show, accompanied by Candice Huffine and an ethnic and multi-size cast of models who stomped the catwalk while Marina serenaded the crowd. The models put bright colors, sexy, see-through cocktail looks, sharp suits – and curves – in the foreground. Siriano’s vision for spring is a world in which we dress for everything. Ball gowns were just as prominent as cocktail sleeves, and every accessory, from fringed trimmings to gauzy lace, hats and capes, was the kind of detail waiting to be looked at – that is, not the kind to be left at home. In fact, if there was ever an outfit that needed a special occasion, the show is closer to Precious Lee – a full tangerine tulle skirt paired with a multi-colored bra top and scarf. Luckily, the awards season is next because this look – and more of this set – is ready for a red carpet.
