SATURDAY APRIL 24 UPDATE: After a major outage last week, the Gremlins for Messenger are back and the service went down again this Saturday night. Users complain that they cannot access Facebook’s own service as thousands of reports come in.
ORIGINAL STORY: If you’re trying not to send messages through Messenger, you are not alone. Facebook’s own service is suffering from a strange outage this morning. Some users complain that the chat app is not working and not working.
The tech gremlins appear to have started around 9:30 a.m. this morning and there are still reports of messages and chats not being broadcast.
Down Detector, which monitors outages around the world, is seeing a huge increase in complaints, with problems increasing by the second. At the time of writing, there have been around 700 reports per minute that Messenger is unavailable.
It is currently unclear what is causing the error or how many people are affected, but there are now a lot of Messenger fans on social media who confirm that they cannot use the app.
At trade fairs, a Messenger fan said: “Lol is Messenger down or our internet is slow and sluggish?”
While another added, “My messenger breaks down.”
Not all users seem to be affected by the bug, and it says on Facebook’s status page that all things are normally doing. Therefore, it is unclear why some Messenger fans have trouble sending chats.
Facebook usually fixes outages pretty quickly. So expect a solution soon.
