Ever fell asleep earlier than Netflix? The most recent Android replace exhibits that you’re not alone

Have you ever fell asleep during a nightly Netflix bing and woke up a few hours later when your smartphone was playing the season finale and your tired eyes were exposed to spoilers? Well, it seems this is a common enough complaint that Netflix has started testing a new system to prevent sleepy subscribers from missing parts of their favorite box sets or movies.

Netflix is currently testing a new timer feature on Android that will automatically pause what you’re watching after a certain amount of time. So you can stop playback after 15, 30 or 45 minutes. Netflix also offers the option to stop playing after the current episode has finished.

The American streaming company confirmed that the feature is currently being tested with a small number of users for The Verge. For those lucky enough to be included in the trial version, the Android version of the streaming app has a small “timer” icon in the top right corner of the screen.

This is something we’ve seen on radio and podcast apps for a while, as people like to play something quietly in the background to get them to sleep. While it’s certainly not that common with video apps, it’s clearly something that Netflix believes will be valuable to some of its subscribers. Of course, Netflix almost always tests new features – and not all of them make it into the latest update for subscribers around the world. Therefore there is no guarantee that this will be approved by headquarters.

Netflix is giving users a good reason not to cancel, as prices are rising in the UK

That said, it might be useful to have updates on tablet and smart TV versions of Netflix in future.

Netflix’s Smart TV apps currently ask you to confirm that after a period of time has passed without any input on the remote control, you will still be actively watching – e.g. B. skip the intro to a program, pause the action or rewind.

Netflix does this to make sure you haven’t churned and forgotten that you were running the show in the other room, which could affect your shortcuts and resume viewing suggestions. However, it is also extremely important for the company to ensure the accuracy of the internal ad numbers.

It is also quite possible that the new sleep timer function within the company will fulfill a similar function.
