Emma Stone performs Cruella de Vil, an aspiring clothier with punk rock costumes

Emma Stone plays the villain Cruella de Vil in Disney’s Cruellawhich premieres on May 28th. Who is responsible for the hard edge and punk rock glamor that it displays throughout the film? That would be English costume designer Jenny Beavan, who is known for her work as the stylist of Charlize Theron Mad Max: Anger Street (2015), Helena Bonham Carter as Queen Elizabeth in The king’s speech (2010) and Rachel McAdams in Sherlock Holmes (2009). Jenny also recently worked on Disney films The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018) and Christopher Robin (2018), which proves that she already has a knack for coming up with fantastic looks that really speak to the essence of a character.

In the newly released 90-second trailer alone, Emma wears a floor-length jacquard silk cloak which she sets on fire and which transforms it into a body-hugging red mermaid dress. It is natural that her outfits would turn our heads since young Estella de Vil, who grew up in London in the 1970s, is an aspiring fashion designer. We even get a look at her mannequins, all lined up in a row, as she warns us, “I was born brilliant.” It is evident that Disney has a costume designer on board for the project who is every bit as brilliant as Estella and Baroness von Hellman (played by Emma Thompson), who are sure to be dressed in looks to suit the requirements. Scroll forward for your first look.
