Demi Lovato works with Vice President Kamala Harris’s niece, Meena Harris, to dispel vaccination misinformation. The world is aiming for herd immunity, but falsehoods are spreading almost as quickly as the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed. Demi and Meena’s phenomenal brand hopes to clear up these misunderstandings while raising money for a good cause.
Chatting on a sensitive topic like vaccines isn’t an easy task, but Phenomenal provides an easy conversation starter. The brand released a “Pro-Vaxxer” sweatshirt ($ 55) to go with their campaign. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the sweatshirt will go towards mobilizing and educating the grassroots to spread trustworthy information about the safety, distribution, and accessibility of vaccines to color communities – especially black women.
The sweatshirt is an easy first step, but how can we approach really difficult vaccine misinformation conversations at home? Meena told POPSUGAR that it was all about the resources. “The more we have love and can approach these conversations from a place of understanding and mutual concern rather than dismissive, the more people will choose to be vaccinated,” she said. Meena suggested referring family and friends to credible sources like the CDC to tell the truth about their concerns.
