ColourPop Tremendous Mellow & Otter Blotted Lip Opinions and Samples

1

ColourPop Super Mellow Blotted Lippe (2021) ($ 8.00 for 0.06 oz.) Is a light-medium peach with warmer undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was firmer in the tube, but it slipped velvety on, which provided a thin, even top layer in one go. With a second layer I was able to build up the pigmentation to medium coverage. It has worn well for two hours and has not been dry.

Formula overview

$ 8.00 / 0.06 oz. – $ 133.33 per ounce

The formula is intended to provide a “bare payout” but can “build up to medium coverage”. It has a “fuzzy matte finish” that “won’t dry”. They are a transparent, matte-tinted lip balm that feels almost weightless, doesn’t stick and has a matte finish right from the start. I found them non-buildable and did not dry, but they stayed on my lips between two and three hours. They’re pretty transfer resistant as I didn’t notice any lip prints on my glass while drinking.

They have transparent to semi-transparent opacity, with only a few of the deeper / richer hues (like red / berry colors) offering more buildable opacity. Many of the shades ran together over my natural lip color, which is lighter and more neutral (not particularly pink), so anyone with more noticeable pigment in their lips may see even fewer differences between the lighter and more mid-range hues.

The consistency was smooth, almost silky, despite a slightly firmer and denser formula (no typical creaminess) and it slipped comfortably over my lips. What impressed me most is that they didn’t seem to capture any texture / imperfections even in the lighter shades.

They have a sweet, fruity scent (read cherry punch on your nose) but no noticeable taste. I don’t notice the scent much after five minutes, but it was strong in the tube.

ColourPop Otter Blotted Lip (2021) ($ 8.00 for 0.06 oz.) Is a bright pink coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was pure pigmentation that could be built up to a semi-transparent coverage, but compared to other shades in the range it tended to get stuck in my lip lines (but at least didn’t stick to the lip texture). The consistency was firmer in the tube, but it slid over my lips without pulling and felt very light. It lasted a good two hours and felt neither dry nor moisturizing.
