ColourPop First Chew & Twice Shy Shiny Lip Stains Opinions & Samples

First bite

ColourPop First Bite Glossy Lip Stain ($ 8.00 for 0.21 oz.) Is a medium-sized orange-coral with a glossy, cream-colored finish. It looked more pink-coral and darker after a few minutes of wearing, as the underlying stain was redder and noticeably affected the end result. The texture was light, thin, and watery, which helped the product spread out easily but made it more prone to parting and settling in my lip lines.

It “solidified” a little less watery and thin, which ensured that it was still comfortable, but did not slip when worn. It lasted a good five hours with a slight stain that lasted a couple of hours but wasn’t strong enough to digest a meal.

It is said to have the “long-lasting power of a lip stain” with the “shine of a gloss”, paired with a “medium to buildable coverage” that “does not dry”. The initial texture was almost watery, overly spreadable (and the applicator often picked up more product than needed, so be careful when applying), but dried to a more silky sheen that was less glossy and more like a satined lipstick with some translucence was.

The initial shine wore off within two hours, making it look like a real satin finish – this went for doing nothing or just a glass as it wasn’t transferable. The stain did not get through a meal and tended to leave a very thick ring around the edges of my lips because it wore off so quickly when I ate. Left to their own devices, most sunglasses were worn for about six hours, leaving a faint mark.

It had medium buildable coverage but quickly built up to semi-opaque coverage without an official second coat (just go back and forth to get an even layer of product). A few shades were more true to color to medium and others were more semi-opaque from the first layer on.

There did not seem to be any added fragrance or flavor to wear.

Doubly shy

ColourPop Twice Shy Glossy Lip Stain ($ 8.00 for 0.21 ounces) initially appeared more orange-brown, but the stain underneath was pink-red and came through very heavily after application, so the end result was more of a medium-dark pink-coral. It had a medium buildable paint release that stuck pretty evenly but blended in a little with my deeper lip lines.

The texture was initially light, spreadable, and more watery before developing a slight tack and some thickness (but it was never heavy or really thick). It worn well for five hours, leaving a moderate stain, and not drying.
