Google is updating the software for its Chromecast with Google TV streaming set-top box with a new feature that will fix one of the biggest annoyances for streamers. Chromecast owners will soon get the new feature without having to update their gadget.
Google TV will finally allow users to remove TV shows and movies from the “Continue Watching” queue. The idea behind this menu is to showcase the box sets and movies that you haven’t finished watching – so you can dive right back in without having to hunt for every single streaming service. However, if you started watching a movie – but decided it was not for you – it would be at the top of the “Next Watch” queue indefinitely. That can be incredibly annoying.
On the Google TV home screen, users can select TV shows and movies that are currently in the queue and remove them. Once removed, the content will no longer appear unless you start viewing it again.
It is unclear when exactly the feature will be introduced. Currently, some users are sharing photos of the new feature on social media, but others have not yet received the feature. It is likely that the feature will be rolled out in the next few weeks. Google usually staggered the introduction of these blockbuster novelties around the world.
It doesn’t matter which streaming services you signed up for, the new feature works regardless. Google TV combines some of the most popular streaming services, including Apple TV +, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and more. It’s worth noting that while the content disappears from the queue on this page, it is not removed from the Continue Watching section in each streaming service’s apps.
