Chanel Wake-up Pink No.1 Lip & Cheek Balm Assessment & Swatches

wake up pink (4)

Chanel Wake-up Pink (4) #1 by Chanel Lip & Cheek Balm ($45.00 for 0.23 oz.) is a lighter medium coral red with moderate, warm undertones – balanced between pink and orange – paired with a silky sheen. The consistency was light, neither too thin nor too thick, and had a slight stickiness that seemed to melt away as the product sat on my skin or lips.

It had semi-transparent, buildable color coverage that was easy to blend across my cheeks and lips. It was applied evenly to bare skin as well as over foundation as it didn’t pick up my base products. The lip product applied evenly to my lips, didn’t set into lip texture and didn’t visibly settle into my lip lines. It wore well on my cheeks for eight hours and on my lips for three and a half hours (and was moisturizing).

formula overview

$45.00/0.23oz. – $195.65 per ounce

The formula is said to have a “nourishing, buttery formula” that “melts into the skin” and adds a “touch of color.” The brand recommended dabbing it onto lips and/or cheeks, although it could be used with precise brushes if desired. I found fingertips worked well for both methods, although as a lip product I found a stand-alone lip brush to be more ideal (I feel like I needed more product on my lips than on my cheeks).

The texture was like a thicker gel with noticeable stickiness, so I was very surprised that the product applied well to foundation and didn’t tend to lift it. It dried noticeably, if not completely, on my cheeks, leaving it with a silky sheen but not looking as dewy as initially applied. It retained more shine on my lips for longer, but wasn’t particularly long-lasting as a lip product.

It had a sheer to semi-sheer buildable pigmentation that was the easiest to achieve on my lips. The product’s slight stickiness and thickness seemed to help it work well on my lips, as many tinted lip balms are often so thin that they tend to settle into my lip lines or leave texture imperfections.

As a cheek product, they lasted seven to eight hours before migrating a little, and as a lip product, they lasted two to four hours and were hydrating to wear.
