If your MacBook isn’t charging properly, you might get a free battery replacement. The refill problem, which Apple says affects a small number of owners, means that some laptops just won’t charge more than one percent no matter how long they’re plugged in. Users will also see a message in the battery status that indicates “Service Recommended”.
To fix the bug, Apple is now replacing these batteries found in laptops that were sold between 2016 and 2017.
In a message on its website, the US company said, “If your 2016 or 2017 MacBook Pro exhibits these behaviors, contact Apple to have the battery replaced for free. Your computer will be checked prior to service to make sure it is eligible is for the free battery change.
“Apple has also released a macOS update that prevents this problem from occurring on other MacBook Pro computers in 2016 and 2017. Please update to macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 or later or install the additional update for macOS Catalina 10.15. 7. “
To check if your MacBook needs servicing, you can check the battery health by going to System Preferences on the Apple menu, tapping Battery, selecting Battery from the sidebar, and then clicking Battery Health.

Along with Apple fixing this MacBook bug, there is more good news on the horizon for the owners of these popular machines.
Apple has confirmed that the latest version of Big Sur 11.3 is now in beta. Anyone who has signed up for Apple’s developer testing program can download it and try it out. A full version should be released in the coming weeks, and one of the biggest changes is aimed at improving the Safari browsing experience.
According to Apple, the Safari homepage is now more customizable because users can use the customization controls to rearrange the sections, which include favorite websites, reading lists, and Siri suggestions.
Other extras improve Apple Music and Apple News. There’s also good news if you own a next-generation game controller.
According to Apple, users can play their favorite games on the Mac with the latest Xbox Series X wireless controller or the Sony DualSense wireless controller.
There’s no word on when Apple will release Big Sur 11.3 to the public, but with beta testing now in full swing, it shouldn’t be too long.
