Android fans will soon be treated to some very impressive specs, even if they don’t want to spend a fortune on a flagship. Tech company Qualcomm just announced a range of new processors that will hit the market later this year that are expected to bring better performance and the latest technologies like improved 5G for mid-range and budget devices.
Qualcomm announces that it will launch a total of four new chips, including the Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G, 695 5G, 480 Plus 5G and 680 4G.
The US company brags that they will all help improve the performance and capabilities of high, mid, and entry-tier devices.
“These 5G and 4G mobile platforms enable higher performance and enhanced capabilities to provide OEMs with additional options to meet existing demand,” Qualcomm said during the release.
For example, the new Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G Mobile Platform receives increased GPU and CPU performance and is designed to offer cutting-edge mobile gaming and accelerated Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enable breathtaking photo and video experiences.
Meanwhile, the entry-level 680 4G has been developed to offer optimized gaming and improved camera specifications including AI-enhanced low-light capture technology.
Commenting on the news, Deepu John, Senior Director, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc said, “Mid-range smartphones are expected to be the main engine accelerating the adoption of 5G devices – especially in emerging markets.
“These four new additions to our roadmap offer our OEM customers significant opportunities and additional options to continue to meet the growing demand for our 5G and 4G mobile platforms.”
There is no information yet on which phones will hit the market with these new processors, but companies like Nokia, Motorola, Oppo, and Xiaomi have all pledged to use them in the future.
