Wife Patrol release an EP of catharsis and commiseration on NOPLACE – LOUD WOMEN

Indianapolis-based trio Wife Patrol has released an EP of growth and coping in NOPLACE.

‘NOPLACE’ is the product of three misfits maneuvering the ugliness, the uncertainty, and the joy of modern life together,” the band said. “Over the past decade, this group has carried each of us through personal and even global upheaval. The new songs carry on that tradition while also showing off our growth as musicians and songwriters.”

After covering Wife Patrol’s track ‘Equinox‘ last year, I jumped at the chance to hear more of their on-the-nose, poetic lyrics, and NOPLACE is exactly what I had hoped for.

Tinged with the melody of a western downfall, ‘We Who Are About To’ is a track about witnessing the face of humanity downward shift in real time. It’s horrific and hopeful in the same breath while reverberating guitar chokes out agonized notes. ‘We Who Are About To’ is the translation of the madness in these times, and where the potentials may lie for us.

‘UFO’ gives ska-infused interstellar escapism, just in time for humans to book a flight out of this shitshow. This track provides cleansing, dancing, and laughter, a musical triple threat that checks a lot of boxes. If you need a pick-me-up after reading the news, ‘UFO’ is the song for you.

‘323’ is a slice of melancholic poetry with an acoustic core that will earn the respect of all goths present. Highlighting a real lightning strike that killed 323 reindeer in Norway, this song absolutely pumps out magic, reflections, and sadness. Speaking in their signature voice, Wife Patrol’s intuitive prowess shines again in ‘323.’

‘NOPLACEII’ is another track rooted in the desperation and disorientation locked within a swirling mental prison. Churning and slamming guitars magnify the disgust of the singers and the spiralling search for solace. This track is fed up and isn’t afraid to shed light on all their shadows.

Impressive as ever, Wife Patrol’s NOPLACE has hit the scene with impeccable timing. Catharsis and commiseration lie at the heart of this album, so if you’re in search of the soundtrack of our modern era, you’ve found it.
