WEWOREWHAT 001 Fragrance Review

If you’re a fashionista, you’re most likely familiar with WEWOREWHAT, the fashion blog and brand created by Danielle Bernstein. Early last year, I was introduced to her first fragrance, WEWOREWHAT 001 Eau de Parfum ($79), and let me just say that it’s different than anything else on my vanity. It’s also perfect for the winter season. Here’s my honest review.

Bernstein says the woody-gourmand fragrance was inspired by the luxuries of New York City—she wanted something “familiar yet exciting,” and it definitely is. It’s very androgynous, it’s worn so well by both a confident woman (or man), and it’s long-lasting. “Scent has been a huge part of my life,” says Bernstein. “I never wore just a single perfume and always mixed at least two when getting ready. 001 is so authentic to my personality…it’s slightly unisex but extremely sexy and bold.”

Created by one of the most in-demand perfumers in the industry, Jerome Epinette, the scent’s top notes include creamy sandalwood, sweet fig and cardamom; the heart comprises coconut water, patchouli and musk; and the base notes are warm cedarwood and amber. The warm woodiness really lingers throughout the day—it’s not one of those scents that disappears in a couple hours—and I get compliments every time I wear it. Note: Though the fig adds a touch of sweetness, if you are looking for a sweet scent, this is not the one. However, I’ve tried layering it with vanilla scents and it works nicely.

The “faux travertine bottle” and irregular, stone-like cap Bernstein chose are also unlike anything in my fragrance collection. The full-size bottle is 3.4 ounces and there’s also a travel-size spray (0.33 ounces) for $28. Overall, this is a very unique scent, which I find so refreshing in the sea of vanilla and gourmand perfumes we’ve seen flooding the market over the past year.
