This time seven years ago, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was still Meghan Markle, star of Suits and fiancé to Prince Harry. Before the entire world watched the couple wed, we all wondered what her royal wedding beauty would look like, and on May 19, 2018, the bride emerged in Windsor lovely and fresh-faced, her classic beauty shining through.
After the ceremony, millions wondered what makeup was responsible for Markle’s pinkish-nude lip, soft smokey eye and peachy flush. Daniel Martin, her close friend and makeup artist (and guest on the premiere episode of With Love, Meghan), previously spoke about his “life-changing” royal role, but never confirmed which makeup was specifically used to create Markle’s subtle and radiant wedding day beauty—until now.
Meghan Markle’s Wedding Day Beauty Breakdown
On the March 12 episode of the Breaking Beauty podcast, Martin revealed the wedding day beauty brands he relied on. The first: “basically a lot of Tatcha.” Martin is currently the global director of artistry at Tatcha, the Japanese beauty brand Markle still wears consistently. (Tatcha founder Vicky Tsai is also a guest on With Love, Meghan.) The second: Dior. “I was with Dior then,” Martin explains, “So a lot of the Backstage had just launched.” He adds: “[Markle’s] whole face was pretty much Dior Backstage. This is the first time I’ve ever said this.”
As for Markle’s famous pink lip? Martin previously told Glamour: “I made sure her lips were well hydrated, but I opted for a tinted lip balm that gave color without looking like heavy lipstick. We wanted a natural flush.” On Breaking Beauty, Martin confirmed he used the Dior Lip Glow ($40) and a MAC lip liner ($25) to achieve the her-lips-but-better pout. “I’m a die-hard MAC lip liner devotee,” Martin also revealed.
