The New “It” Sneaker: adidas SL 72 og

This post is sponsored by adidas.

Sneakers have been making a buzzy fashion statement for a few years now, and adidas has been at the forefront of all the viral must-have-shoe moments. For good reason, too. Their sneakers are easy to wear thanks to their often minimal, non-bulky designs, and, maybe most importantly, adidas sneakers are eye-catching

Which is why I started bringing my phone closer to my face when I recently began spotting a new sneaker on the feet of some key fashion industry icons.

These weren’t Sambas or Gazelle’s I was seeing, but they were adidas (those three iconic stripes are why their shoes are such an amazing statement). These sneakers had a far more retro look, appeared to be slightly more cushioned, and had just enough extra oomph to their shape to feel like an upgrade to the barely-there-footwear we’ve been rocking the past handful of years.

I dug around and figured out these were adidas SL 72 sneakers.

It only took one quick news search of their name to get me thinking that these shoes are about to be the next big thing. Or…perhaps they already are.

The Latest adidas Sneaker Getting ALL The Buzz – Are They Worth It?

I’m not one to complain about sneakers staying power in the limelight of fashion (I would wear sneakers over a boot or heel any day of the week), but I can’t say that I didn’t pause and wonder if adding a pair of SL 72 sneakers to my closet was worth it, especially considering my collection of Sambas

I was, however, on the hunt for some new shoes. Since sneakers are what I wear 90% of the time, my current rotation has been starting to feel run down. And while I recently moved to a town that regularly sees winter temperatures in the 30s and 40s, I simply cannot bring myself to buy a pair of boots (they’re all ugly – there, I said it).

For so many reasons, adidas’ SL 72 sneakers have been a pleasant surprise. Their vintage silhouette was originally designed for track runners (in 1972, obviously) which is probably why, combined with their updated sole, the lightweight cushion is so dang good for all day wear.

I’ve been taking these around town for long afternoons spent holiday shopping and running errands, but also find myself lacing them up around the house just the same.

With no shade to my favorite Samba sneakers, the SL 72’s put those to shame in terms of making my feet happy.

This is an adidas sneaker that is as comfy as it is really cute.

Maybe the best part is that these sneakers fit with my thicker winter socks like magic. The shoe has just enough of a significant sole to not look silly with thicker socks, and their traction has been a breeze in frosty mornings and busy sidewalks.

Thanks to that retro track runner shape, these sneakers really shine with matching sets, too.

I’m obsessed with sweats from adidas, and this zip-up hoodie (with brilliantly hidden zipper pockets and an extra tall collar to block out brutal wind chillsgasp, it’s amazing) plus pants set is worthy of wrapping up to place under the tree.

My “clay” color ended up being pretty different in real life than what is shown online, which is worth noting – it’s a green tone instead of a warm beige – but it’s also not the only option. Classic black would be chic for city strolling, and there are really gorgeous, bold pops of color, too!
