The 29th chapter of Uttaratantra of Sushruta Samhita is named as Skandāpasmära Pratişedha Adhyaya. This chapter deals with the Treatment of Skandāpasmāra.
अथातः स्कन्दापस्मारप्रतिषेधं व्याख्यास्यामः ||१||
यथोवाच भगवान् धन्वन्तरिः ||२||
We will now expound Skandäpasmära pratişedha – treatment of the child seized by Skandäpasmära graha; as revealed by the venerable Dhanvantari.
Bilvadi Kashaya Pariseka
बिल्वः शिरीषो गोलोमी सुरसादिश्च यो गणः |
परिषेके प्रयोक्तव्यः स्कन्दापस्मारशान्तये ||३||
For pacifying Skandapasmara, the decoction of the below mentioned herbs should be used for bathing the child –
– Bilva
– Sirisa
– Golomi
– Surasadi Gana group of herbs
Recipes for Abhyanga and Pana
सर्वगन्धविपक्वं तु तैलमभ्यञ्जने हितम् |
क्षीरवृक्षकषाये च काकोल्यादौ गणे तथा ||४||
वपक्तव्यं घृतं चापि पानीयं पयसा सह |
For Abhyanga – Massage should be given to the child suffering from Skandapasmara using the oil processed and prepared with Sarvagandha (all substances having fragrance).
For Paniya – Ghee should be processed and prepared with decoction of Kshiri Vrksas (trees having milky sap) and Kakolyadi Gana group of herbs. This ghee should be given to the child to drink after mixing it thoroughly in milk.
Utsadana and Dhuma recipes
उत्सादनं वचाहिङ्गुयुक्तं स्कन्दग्रहे हितम् ||५||
गृध्रोलूकपुरीषाणि केशा हस्तिनखा घृतम् |
वृषभस्य च रोमाणि योज्यान्युद्धूपनेऽपि च ||६||
For Utsadana – Powder of Vaca and Hingu is extremely beneficial for the purpose of massaging the body and should be used for children suffering from affliction of Skandapasmara graha.
Dhupana – Fumigation should be given to the child afflicted by Skandapasmara graha with fumes of excreta of eagle and owl, human hairs, nails of elephants or hairs of bull after adding ghee to them.
Dharana, Nivedya, Snana, Pujana
अनन्तां कुक्कुटीं बिम्बीं मर्कटीं चापि धारयेत् |
पक्वापक्वानि मांसानि प्रसन्ना रुधिरं पयः ||७||
भूतौदनो निवेद्यश्च स्कन्दापस्मारिणेऽवटे |
चतुष्पथे च कर्तव्यं स्नानमस्य यतात्मना ||८||
स्कन्दापस्मारसञ्ज्ञो यः स्कन्दस्य दयितः सखा |
विशाखसञ्ज्ञश्च शिशोः शिवोऽस्तु विकृताननः ||९||
Dharana – Amulets of Anañtā, kukkuțī, bimbi and markați should be worn on the body.
Nivedya – Oblation to Skandapasmara should be offered at a deep pit with cooked and uncooked meat, Prasanna (scum of beer), animal blood and milk.
Snana, Mantra – The child should be given a bath at a place where four roads meet. Following this prayer should be chanted as –
“You Skañdāpasmāra, you are the one who is liked by Skanda. He likes you as his friend. You are the one having a distorted face and also known by the name Visakha. Kindly grace the child and bestow him with happiness”.
इति श्री सुश्रुतसंहितायामुत्तरतन्त्रान्तर्गते कुमारतन्त्रे स्कन्दापस्मारप्रतिषेधो नाम (तृतीयोऽध्यायः, आदितः) एकोनत्रिंशोऽध्यायः।।२९।।
Thus ends the twenty ninth chapter by name Skañdāapasmāraprati-şedha in Uttara sthana of Suśrutasamhita.
