What does CRACK mean?

If a recipe has “crack” in the title it means that the recipe has cheddar, bacon, and ranch in the ingredients. It all started with my Crack Dip way back in 2007. I made the dip for a Titans football game. Everyone went crazy over it. We couldn’t stop eating it and said it was like crack. The name stuck.

According to the dictionary, the definition of crack is “of superior excellence or ability”. We think the flavor combination of cheddar, bacon, and ranch fits this definition! This recipe is most definitely of superior excellence!

How to Make Crack Chicken Sandwiches

This dish is effortless to make with only a few simple ingredients. Place boneless skinless chicken breasts in a 6-qt slow cooker. Sprinkle the chicken with ranch dressing mix. Top with cooked bacon and cream cheese. Cover the crockpot with the lid and cook on LOW until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF. Remove the chicken from the crock pot and shred with two forks. Add the chicken back to the slow cooker. Add shredded sharp cheddar cheese and stir to combine. Cover the slow cooker and cook until the cheese has melted. Garnish with green onions, and serve the shredded chicken on your favorite buns.

Helpful Tips & Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can use any chicken you prefer. Boneless skinless chicken breasts, chicken thighs, or chicken tenderloins all work great.
  • To cut down on prep time, I use precooked real bacon bits. I buy the big bags from Costco and Sam’s.
  • I find that Philadelphia Cream Cheese works best in this recipe.
    • You can use low-fat cream cheese. I would avoid fat-free cream cheese as it doesn’t melt very well.
  • Add a splash of chicken broth or heavy cream if the chicken mixture is too thick.
  • Here is our recipe for Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix made with buttermilk powder, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder, chives, dill, salt, and black pepper: https://www.plainchicken.com/homemade-ranch-dressing-mix/
    • If you are sensitive to ranch seasoning, adjust the amount to your preference.
  • Is Crack Chicken low-carb? Yes! This recipe’s ingredients are low-carb, keto-friendly, and gluten-free.
  • Can I freeze Crack Chicken? Yes. Cool the chicken to room temperature and transfer to a freezer-safe container or freezer bag. Store in the freezer for up to four months.
    • Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

What to Serve with Crack Chicken Sliders

We are obsessed with these sandwiches! They are great for dinner and football parties. We serve them on hamburger buns or slider buns. They are equally delicious in a lettuce wrap, low-carb tortilla, or on top of a bowl of rice or baked potato. The sandwiches are rich, creamy, and downright irresistible, so pairing them with lighter, complementary sides is the way to go.

  • A crisp green salad with a tangy vinaigrette or a fresh coleslaw adds a nice crunch and helps balance out the richness of the sandwiches.
  • If you’re craving something warm, roasted vegetables or a simple batch of green beans work beautifully alongside the cheesy chicken.
  • For a more indulgent meal, classic sides like french fries, potato chips, or even a bowl of mac and cheese make for a crowd-pleasing combo.

Whatever you choose, these sandwiches are the star, so keep your sides simple and satisfying. Looking for more chicken recipes? Here are some popular recipes from the website:
