Pinterest released this year’s weddings trend report, and its data points to a clear shift toward modern celebrations over old traditions. Themes from the report include low-key pre-wedding soirées, opalescent palettes, speakeasy venues, and bold new bridal headwear (think crowns, caps, and cool-girl veils).
According to Pinterest, people made over 7 billion wedding related searches last year, and saved more than 16.7 billion ideas globally. For the jewelry industry, what’s going on in the world of weddings matters—from the journey to the aisle to the “I do”s, the opportunity to reach customers along the way is great.
Let’s start with wedding palettes: Couples appear to be gravitating toward moody, nature-driven tones, as well as opalescent and iridescent hues. The latter has obvious connotations for jewelry—opal is a clear choice here. For darker tones, searches for hues like plum and olive, merlot, raspberry, and terracotta point to gems like tourmaline (in all shades), amethyst, garnet, and carnelian.
The Gen Z spotlight section of the report is where jewelry really shines. The generation is reportedly seeking an alt wedding aesthetic, with edge and drama to boot. Grills for the teeth, bejeweled manicures, alternative wedding rings, body-chain jewelry, chunky bangles, and a grunge necklace stack were all trending search terms.
Brides appear to be ditching traditional veils for alternative accessories as well, with searches for bandeau tiara, forehead tiara, and pearl headdress among the popular search terms.
Men’s jewelry and silver are having a major moment, and men’s jewelry is stepping outside the box. Searches for terms including hand bracelet men, pinky finger ring men, and groom brooch have seen big increases, while silver, to the surprise of no one in the industry, is skyrocketing in interest. Searches terms like silver earrings design, silver flower bracelet, men’s silver jewelry, and silver bangle stack are standouts from the report.
