I am not afraid to admit it: I love sequins. Love them. My lifestyle right now is not very sequins-forward, but I imagine myself one day, living in a posh retirement community and meeting my girlfriends to drink martinis and play Mahjong (wearing head-to-toe sequins on a Tuesday). I actually only own a few sequin pieces, because as much as I love them, they don’t make it out very often. But the pieces I own are solid and extra special. I have a few caftans from La Vie Stylehouse that I love pulling out for a fancy occasion, and I bought the Blaze Milano jacket above a couple of years ago. Despite not getting much wear, it remains a top-ten favorite piece in my closet. Last year, for an event, I styled it with my emerald green La Ligne Colby pants and felt like a million bucks.
The silver is sadly long gone (I couldn’t even find it secondhand), but this year, the brand made this really chic brown version. I size up in this brand; I find that the “3” fits like most mediums. Below, I’ve rounded up a few more sequin favorites. There are always exceptions, but I have found that sequins are not really a time to scrimp on quality or go for the “save” version. They can easily look cheap, and if certain accommodations (the lining!!) are not made, they can be scratchy and/or snag your other clothing. Buy one excellent sequin piece in the best quality you can afford and keep it forever.
If sequins feel totally crazy to you, maybe dip your toe in the water with a ballet flat like these or something like this embellished jacket from Sea (I’d style it with straight leg dark wash jeans and a fun heel). This Tory Burch cardigan is a total gem (and on sale), I like how unexpected the yellow feels! At the other end of the spectrum, I can’t stop thinking about this SIMONMILLER set (top + pants) for a head-to-toe glam look. And this Dries clutch has been hanging out in my Saks cart… isn’t it epic?
