Must-See Chicago Concerts and Comedy Shows in April

April features an abundance of entertainment in and around Chicago. From an artist who just released one of the best albums of the year to an all-time, forever favorite of the Rebellious Magazine team and its readers, this month is going to keep you busy with concerts and comedy shows.

Ani DiFranco – Thalia Hall April 10 & April 11

We here at Rebellious Magazine don’t really like to play favorites, but if we did, Ani DiFranco would be at the very top of our list. With over 20 albums under her belt, DiFranco is a feminist folk rock icon and her two-night run at Thalia Hall on April 10-11 is sure to be a beautiful experience. Her latest release, Unprecedented Shit, serves as a commentary on the current state of the world, while also offering fans a new sonic experience.

Kylie Minogue – Allstate Arena April 2

Speaking of icons, the Princess of Pop herself, Kylie Minogue will also be in the Chicago-area as she is bringing her Tension Tour to the Allstate Arena in Rosemont on April 2. “There will be a whole lot of Padaming!,” Minogue said of the performances at the time of the tour announcement so don’t forget your dancing shoes for this one.

Nubya Garcia – SPACE April 9

Nubya Garcia performs at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom in Chicago on March 5, 2022.

Renowned saxophonist and composer Nubya Garcia will be bringing fans on a musical Odyssey – her second studio album Odyssey was released via Concord Jazz last September – this month. SPACE in Evanston will play host to the British jazz musician for an intimate performance on April 9.

Samantha Bee – City Winery April 15

If you’re in the mood for a lot of laughter, Samantha Bee will be taking the stage at City Winery Chicago on April 15. The show is titled “How to Survive Menopause,” but knowing Bee’s resume, she will most likely insert some political humor into her personal storytelling.

Japanese Breakfast – The Salt Shed April 30-May 2

Japanese Breakfast performs during day 2 of the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on July 16, 2022.

Last month, Japanese Breakfast – led by the brilliant Michelle Zauner – released an album sure to land on many best-of-the-year lists with For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). Zauner and company always deliver a musically captivating and emotionally satisfying set each time they take the stage, so you’ll want to make sure you are at The Salt Shed for one of the three upcoming Japanese Breakfast shows that begin on April 30.

Charli XCX performing at the Allstate Arena on Nov. 19, 2017.

Also this month, Jordan Jensen will be performing at The Den Theatre on April 18 and Lady Blackbird is set to take the stage at City Winery on April 24. Brat summer continues this spring, as well, as Charli XCX is bringing her Brat Arena Tour to the Allstate Arena on April 28 while The Linda Lindas will be rocking at Metro on April 13.

April is absolutely showering Chicago with top tier entertainment!
