Mona Tougaard & Irina Shayk Appear a Little ‘AI-Generated’ on the Cover of Vogue France

Claire Thomson-Jonville has enjoyed one full year as Vogue France’s head of editorial content. Since picking up from where Eugénie Trochu left off, the editor has endorsed names like Loli Bahia, Natasha Poly, Addison Rae, Vittoria Ceretti, Joan Smalls, Gisele Bündchen, Anok Yai, Kim Kardashian, and Miley Cyrus as French Vogue cover stars. Next up on the cover of Vogue France is Mona Tougaard and Irina Shayk, who help round out the past twelve months on the double December/January edition of the magazine. The girls pose for the photographer Carin Backoff for the occasion, with Alastair McKimm on styling duties. McKimm (who was appointed Vogue France fashion and image director-at-large in February) dressed the girls in head-to-toe Christian Dior.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Awful, looks like something AI would generate,” immediately critiqued Avonlea.

“Feels like an attempt to recreate the Naomi [Campbell] and Kate [Moss] cover from 2008. I have no problems with Claire paying tribute to Carine [Roitfeld] again, but at least try and update the source image with a contemporary twist, or dare I say… try to do better? A dull image overall,” voiced Fiercification.

“It’s like a cheap version of the February 2008 cover combined with the June/July 2008 covers,” echoed forum member LastNight.

Vogue28 shared the same sentiments. “I’m also able to see the resemblance between this and the February 2008 cover. This, however, falls short in comparison. There’s zero spark here, zero signs of life, energy, or… pizzaz. Where’s the sense of fun and festive glamour for a December/January cover? Massively missed opportunity here. Smiles and some glitz wouldn’t have gone amiss,” he complained.

“That blue background does not scream luxury. It should have been pin sharp on a crisp white background, not whatever this is. The styling certainly isn’t helping either. I’ve really had enough of this harsh lighting photography, it shows a lack of technical skill from the photographer,” GivenchyHomme critiqued.
