[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I don’t think I’ve used anything from Kat Burki before but the founder – er, Kat Burki, has a background in nutritional biochemistry, healthcare law and epidemiology and uses that experience to bring the philosophy of nutritional biochemistry to her skin care collection. It’s about now that I feel thank god someone else puts the thinking into skin care – once we start talking about ingredient synergy and bioavailability I know I just honestly couldn’t be bothered myself. Occasionally, I get a reach out from a white label manufacturer asking if I want to launch a skin care range – hardest of all possible nos!
Leaving aside the myriad of existing products in the Kat Burki range, I’m just going to focus on the Kat Burki Silk Protein Primer which I rather like. I’m not a habitual primer user – sometimes I wonder if it’s an Emperor’s New Clothes kind of a product – but I can say that Silk Protein Primer sits very beautifully under make up, makes my skin feel very silky indeed and I believe helped my foundation to apply more evenly with less effort.
It’s lightly moisturising but I note that it has blurring as a descriptor and I can’t say I found that to be the case for me. Interestingly, the product description lists Zinc and Titanium Dioxide as a barrier ‘to protect’ but doesn’t mention sun. I like the addition of algae bio-ferment for moisture and protection and Irish Sea Moss which seems to be one of those excellent multi-taskers that contain vitamins, minerals, peptides and amino acids. It seems that this primer is more about protecting the skin – nothing wrong there – and acting as a protective undercoat. It’s certainly not a super-grippy primer that locks make up to your skin but it does help with application and longevity in a gentle, feel-good kind of a way.
I think you need to be really into your skin care – if you’re a slap-it-on and hope for the best kind of person (like me, mostly), then the £52 price tag is probably too high for most. That said, Silk Protein Primer feels like a careful and considered product that your complexion can only benefit from. You can find it HERE where it’s on offer for £41.60 in its old packaging.
