[purchase/affiliate] I love picking up products from Asia, especially if they’ve gone viral on social media channels, like this Curling Iron mascara from Judy Doll, a Chinese brand. The premise of it is that by using the ‘curling iron’ applicator, your lashes will hold their curl all day – but only if you curl them first. Hmm.
I watched a few tutorials on YouTube before applying the mascara via the very odd metal wand. In a couple that I watched, it didn’t seem to matter if you curled your lashes first or not so I didn’t bother because I don’t usually. I was worried that the wand would simply ‘wipe’ the mascara onto the lashes but somehow, even with the lack of bristles, it managed to coat quite thoroughly.
It’s a builder – your first coat will merely be priming your lashes for the other coats and when I say other coats, that would be many of them. I didn’t really start to see any eye opening coverage until coat 3, 4 and 5. In fairness, the iron applicator doesn’t hold a lot of product – certainly nowhere near your average mascara brush. But, the result was quite, well, average. Nothing to be excited about – nice, evenly coated black lashes but that’s what most mascaras do, or at least should.
Where Judy Doll Curling Iron Mascara comes into its own is with durability. This mascara did not shift all day long – my lashes were exactly the same at the end of the day as they were at the beginning and that is impressive. If you’re going to give it a go and you like a very open look, do curl first because based on my experience, your curl will hold. It was only at the end of the day that I realised why it had gone viral. In my view, it’s everything to do with the waterproof and hold formula and nothing to do with the iron wand but I’ll use it to the last drop. I bought mine from YesStyle (it will take ages to arrive) HERE for £6.79.
