What makes Jollibee spaghetti so unique?

There’s Italian spaghetti, and then there’s Jolly Spaghetti. Jollibee, the world-famous Filipino fast-food restaurant, has made its one-of-a-kind take on pasta into somewhat of a cult classic.

Sure, it’s different, but what does Jollibee Spaghetti taste like? Most people find it on the sweet side thanks to the banana ketchup in the recipe, and the sliced hot dogs and ground beef give the sauce a savory component.

Topped with plenty of cheddar cheese, it’s a comforting and satisfying meal that, if you don’t already love it, the taste will grow on you.

Why you should try this recipe

Jolly Spaghetti is a fusion of sweet and savory flavors that takes an ordinary dish in a new direction. The sweet sauce and hot dog slices combined with ground beef make it an instant kids’ favorite, and the innovative recipe is enough to tempt adventurous adults into trying it.

Since you can freeze the sauce, you can easily make Jolly Spaghetti for the kids the next time you are cooking a more adult-oriented pasta dish for yourself.

Jollibee Spaghetti ingredients

For this Filipino Spaghetti Jollibee recipe, you’ll need:

  • Vegetable oil
  • White onion, minced
  • Garlic, minced
  • Salt
  • Ground chuck
  • Hot dogs
  • Banana ketchup
  • Tomato puree
  • Tomato sauce
  • Sugar (optional, if needed)
  • Water
  • Spaghetti noodles
  • Ground black pepper
  • Easy-melt cheese, shredded

Banana ketchup, also known as banana sauce, is a popular condiment in the Philippines and a must-have ingredient for this recipe. This version of ketchup does not use tomatoes. Instead, it contains bananas, vinegar, and spices, bringing the spaghetti sauce a sweet and tangy flavor. You can buy banana ketchup online.

Jollibee uses cheddar cheese, but shredded Velveeta will melt better.

How to make Jollibee Spaghetti

To prepare this Jollibee Spaghetti recipe:

  1. Place a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. When the saucepan is hot, add the vegetable oil.
  3. Once the oil starts to shimmer, add the minced white onions and a pinch of salt to help draw out the liquid from the onions. Stir the white onions occasionally until they become translucent.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute.
  5. Crumble in the ground chuck. Allow the meat to brown while stirring from time to time. Drain excess fat.
  6. Cut the hot dogs into quarter-inch slices and add to the browned ground beef. Stir until warmed through, about two minutes.
  7. Add the banana ketchup, tomato puree, and tomato sauce to the meat mixture.
  8. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the water. Cover and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes.
  1. While the sauce is simmering, prepare the spaghetti according to the package instructions on the package.
  2. When the pasta is finished cooking, drain it and keep it warm.
  3. Taste the sauce and add some sugar if it is too acidic. Season to taste with salt and ground black pepper.
  4. Plate the spaghetti. Ladle some of the sauce over the cooked spaghetti noodles and sprinkle with the grated cheese.

What to serve with Jolly Spaghetti

This spaghetti goes with classic pasta sides as well as some more unusual choices:

Fried Chicken. Fried Chicken and spaghetti may seem like an odd combo, but it is a popular meal deal at Jollibee. Use your favorite chicken recipe or go with a classic like KFC Fried Chicken

Garlic Cheese Bread. This Filipino spaghetti Jollibee recipe can be a tad too sweet. But a few slices of Garlic Cheese Bread on the side can help cut through it with its intense garlic and cheese flavor.

Starbucks Paradise Drink. Although it may not be the same as the Pineapple Quencher Jollibee serves, Starbucks Paradise Drink is a great sipping option for sipping with your Jolly Spaghetti. This tropical cooler bursts with fresh pineapple, passionfruit, and coconut flavors.

How to store the leftovers

Keep the sauce and cooked spaghetti in separate containers in the refrigerator.

For longer-term storage, you can freeze the sauce in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Defrost the sauce overnight in the fridge before reheating.

How long does it last?

Use up any pasta or sauce in the fridge within three days. Frozen sauce will last for up to a month.

What is the best way to reheat this?

Pour the thawed sauce into a saucepan and warm it gently over low heat on the stove. Stir frequently to prevent the sauce from scorching.  If the sauce is thickening too much, add some water.

You can quickly reheat the spaghetti in the warm sauce or dip it in boiling water for about 45 seconds until warm.
