While putting this post together, I realized it’s been almost exactly one year to the day since my last big J.crew try-on session. It’s no coincidence that J.Crew somehow manages to always pullllll me with their holiday and winter collections because they are always just so. dang. good. (And, so are their sales this time of the year!)
This holiday season, stepping into J.Crew is like entering some sort of stylish winter wonderland. I came for the Fair Isle knitwear and stayed for the brushed cashmere – and so much more including: a top-rated satin skirt for under $40, the warmest jacquard print fleece and the most flattering jeans I’ve tried on in months.
A Holiday Inspired Try-On at J.Crew
And Just because Black Friday is ‘officially’ over doesn’t mean the sales are stopping. So many of my favorite pieces I tried on in this post are still on major sale, so let’s get into it!
Outfit 1: Relaxed Crewneck Brushed Cashmere Sweater + The Gwyneth Slip Skirt
This brushed cashmere and satin skirt combo was one of my favorite overall looks of my J.Crew try-on. Not only did I feel chic and put together, I was also insanely comfortable. I can’t think of a holiday event look that will be more cozy than this outfit (unless it’s deemed acceptable to wear some cashmere sweats to my boyfriend’s holiday work party).
Sweater (S) | Skirt (M) | Flats (7.5)
Fit Notes: The brushed cashmere is perfectly oversized and super soft with ZERO itchiness in the fabric. I’m wearing a small, so it does run large. Meanwhile, the satin skirt has an elastic waist band.
Outfit 2: Fair Isle Mockneck Sweater + High-rise Sailor Denim Trousers
One of the main reasons I wanted to do this J.Crew try-on was to scope out all their fair-isle goodness. J.Crew has never let me down when it comes to cute and cozy fair-isle knitwear. Oh, and these Sailor front-pocket jeans? They are most definitely the most flattering jeans I’ve tried on in months. I know Shana and Em are big fans of these jeans too, they really are that good and they are 40% off right now.
Sweater (M) | Jeans (27) | Sambas (7.5)
Fit Notes: What makes this fair-isle sweater my favorite: the not-too-cropped, not-too-long length and the thick high-quality knit fabric (of course). It’s the perfect length that I don’t have the desire to do the ‘Millennial half-tuck’ and it shows off the cute front-pockets on the jeans. I felt that the jeans ran large, I am in a size 27, which is one size smaller than I usually am in jeans.
Outfit 3: Jacquard-print Sherpa Fleece Pullover + Wide-leg Velvet Sailor Trousers
Oh wow. This bold jacquard print half-zip fleece was another piece I specifically wanted to try on and it did not disappoint. It is lined and THICK, so it’s extra warm. It’s also 50% off for a limited time and is an easy way to make a statement while still staying toasty.
Sweater (M) | Velvet Trousers (27) | Adidas Sambas (7.5)
Fit Notes: These wide-leg velvet sailor trousers are just. SO. GOOD. Fit true to size. They come in four different colors and in petite and tall sizing as well.
Outfit 4: Relaxed V-neck Sweater + Leopard Print Straight-Leg Chinos
Go bold or go home, right? It’s hard to capture in this picture just how bright and bold (and completely lovely) this red v-neck sweater is, IRL. Not to mention it’s made with J.Crew’s patented supersoft yarn AND is currently over 60% off right now. It’s an easy win for this holiday season. I’m a fan of these straight-leg leopard print chinos too, as I’ve had trouble finding none baggy leopard print pants options.
Sweater (M) | Chinos (27) | Adidas Sambas (7.5)
Fit Notes: This deep v-neck sweater runs pretty true to size, with longer cuffs. While, the leopard print straight-leg chinos have my ideal amount of stretchiness (97% cotton, 3% elastane) so they stay fitted but allow for plenty of flexibility and movement without stretching out at the end of the day.
Outfit 5: Pleated Ballet Dress in Stretch Cotton-Blend
I tried this bestselling dress on a whim, when I noticed it for the first time ever in the store! You may have noticed from my previous posts that I tend to prefer flirtier or sorta sexy styles when it comes to dresses – which is exactly why I love this practically perfect modest Audrey Hepburn-inspired ballet dress. It has a lovely feminine deep scoop-back which shows off just the right amount of skin and adds just a smidge of sexiness to the overall look. Oh, and it’s almost 40% off right now.
Fit Notes: This pleated ballet dress is made from a stretch cotton blend fabric (92% cotton, 8% elastane) and is attached to a lined pleated skirt. It’s swishy perfection and also comes in ivory and dark green. Fits true to size.
Outfit 6: Velvet Alexandra Blazer + Cable-knit Rollneck™ Sweater + Denim Wide-Leg Trousers
I can’t go to J.Crew and NOT try on a blazer during the holiday season, that would be sacrilege. And this top-rated best selling velvet blazer did NOT disappoint. J.Crew has really perfected the blazer with this one. They know how to make a flattering and comfortable timelessly stylish blazer so I can see why it’s is a fan favorite and a holiday season must-have. Bonus: everything I’m wearing in this picture is on sale!
Jacket (M) | Sweater (M) | Jeans (27) | Flats (7.5)
Fit Notes: J.Crew knows how to make a stylish blazer that you actually enjoy wearing. It’s a single-breasted blazer made from 76% cotton, 22% lyocell and 2% elastane, with a peak lapel. The Curvy denim trouser in 1996 semi-stretch are 99% cotton, 1% elastane and run large.
Outfit 7: Fair Isle lady jacket in Boiled Wool Blend + Low-rise Wide-Leg Denim Trouser
I can’t decide how I actually feel about this boiled wool blend fair isle jacket. On the one hand, this ’90’s tv-mom inspired’ is not my usual style, but on the other hand…something about it is working, especially with these low-rise wide-leg jeans. And honestly, 90’s mom style was kiiiiinda the best, and at the worse, it’s very nostalgic and trendy.
Jacket (M) | Jeans (27) | Flats (7.5)
Fit Notes: This signature ‘sweater lady’ style jacket is knit from a textured, heavier-weight bouclé yarn and a vintage-inspired fair isle print with a cropped fit. It’s made from 36% polyamide, 28% merino wool, 24% viscose and 12% lambswool. Also, these low-rise jeans are one of the only low-rise jeans that I actually like and feel like look good on my body type.
Outfit 8: Denim Barn Jacket + Cable-knit Turtleneck Cardigan Sweater + Wide-leg Velvet Sailor Trousers
This denim barn jacket was one that I’ve been wanting to try on for a long time and I’m so glad I did. It’s my ideal barn jacket with an oversized fit and big ole’ lovely pockets. It’s also available in black (limited availability) and it’s on sale.
Jacket (M) | Cardigan (M) | Velvet Pants (27) | Adidas Sambas (7.5)
Fit Notes: This denim barn jacket features oversized pockets, a tonal cord collar and double seams is made from 100% cotton. While the cable knit cardigan fits true to size and is made from: 35% acrylic, 28% wool, 22% polyamide and 15% alpaca and has pretty gold crest buttons.
Outfit 9: Fair Isle Johnny-Collar Sweater + Curvy Slim-Wide Jean in 1996 Semi-Stretch
Okay, if you want the SOFTEST J.Crew Fair-Isle print sweater, look no further than this one. This cozy and textured bad boy is made from bouclé yarn and has a cool big draped johnny-collar and a slight v-neck. Right now, take an extra 50% off this Fair Isle sweater with the code: SHOPSALE.
Fair-Isle Sweater (M) | Jeans (27) | Adidas Sambas (7.5)
Fit Notes: These vintage-inspired Curvy slim-wide jeans in 1996 semi-stretch are one of my favorite denim options from the try-on. They are top-rated, true-to-size fit. The jeans are 99% regenagri®-certified cotton and 1% elastane and fair-trade certified with a slightly cropped fit with a front rise of: 11 3/4″, a 27″ inseam, and a 19 1/4″ leg opening.
