I wonder in what ways are we giving our power away?
Every day and in every interaction we have a choice, to give our power away or to stay empowered. We can try to fit in, try to please others, hush our own voices as to not rock the boat – we can suppress our own energy.
But, is this good? Is it worth it? You have to decide.
You see, for many years I without realizing it quietened my own voice and needs in order to not be ridiculed and hurt by others. In order to not be as much of an outcast among those I felt I should fit in with but didn’t.
And after many years like this and taking a step back to take a good look at it finally, I can tell you that it didn’t help. I found myself realizing that even though I had many people around me, I still felt alone and unheard.
If this is you, I’m here to tell you that you aren’t the only one feeling this way.
If we suppress our true selves for the sake of making others happy, we may gain a little “love”, a little less eye rolling, a little brief feeling of acceptance from these types of people. But, do they really accept us? And, is this really good for us?
I believe the answer to both of those questions is “no”.
You are so valuable, and so am I. We all are. And, we all deserve to be able to be ourselves. After all, that’s what we’re here for – not to live our lives for someone else, trying to constantly be what they want us to be, how they want us to be.
What’s the point in that?
And, I’ll leave you with that. A little something to remind you to not give your power away, but instead to try to stay empowered each day as much as you can.
