How To Style Staud’s Tomato Print Midi Skirt (3 Outfit Ideas For Summer)

At the last minute, I decided to add this Staud Midi Skirt (tomato print!!) into my suitcase for Spain. Last minute adds are NOT my thing – I tend to pack tightly edited capsule wardrobes when I travel (overpacking drives me nuts), but there was something about this skirt. When I tested it out in my packing collage (I obsessively create photo packing lists), the skirt seemed to go with virtually everything I had already packed, so in it went.

If interested, my full Spain photo packing collage, as well as it’s evolution and a bit about this process in general are over on our Discord Channel under the thread: Travel -> “Folks who create photo packing lists”.

A Printed Midi Skirt I Didn’t Mean To Pack (But Wore Everywhere)

In general, I tend to stick to natural fibers, so I was a liiiiitle skeptical about the skirt’s 100% viscose fabric (technically plant-based, but still goes through a chemical-heavy transformation). And I had been hearing that viscose is also really cool and breathable in hot weather (like silk) but…???

Turns out this skirt was freaking great. The shape is exactly right – nice and high-waisted so I was comfortable wearing it with cropped tops, yet not so high I couldn’t tuck something in.

It was also nice and cool on my legs, and breathable even in Seville’s 100+ degree temps. Whether wandering around palaces, gardens, going out to dinner or hitting a little market, this skirt was cute, comfy, and the kind of piece that never looked out of place.

Furthermore, viscose seems to resist wrinkling, too, and came out of the suitcase (in Madrid, Seville, Cadiz, and Granada) looking pretty darn wrinkle-free.

Not bad, Staud.

3 Easy Midi Skirt Outfits To Copy Right Now

I had honestly forgotten how useful printed midi skirts can be – dress ’em up, dress ’em down – and I can see this one being seriously hardworking in my wardrobe all year. Here are a couple other ways I’ve been wearing this skirt with a few of my other current wardrobe staples. (And if you want to see these outfits in action, here’s a quick IG reel we just published.)

1. Outfit Idea: Dress Up a Printed Midi Skirt With a Silk Top + Sandals

Top (size) | Skirt (6) | Shoes (at Reformation) | Bag

While the tomato print does skew daytime, it dresses up nicely with a silky little top and sexy flat sandals. This is exactly how I like to dress up in summer: a little dressy, a little not, and enough bare skin to feel like summer.

2. Outfit Idea: Keep It Casual With a Tee + Flip-Flops

Tee (size m)| Skirt (6) | Bag | Shoes (Size)

I’m such a 90’s girl, I wear flip-flops with everything. Still. And I love this easy, casual take – perfect for a trip to the farmer’s market, or heading out for breakfast.

This Sezane tee, BTW, is one of my very favorites. It runs TTS, but order up a size if you want it slouchier. I own both smalls and mediums (in various graphics) of this tee. It’s literally a perfect boyish shape.

3. Outfit Idea: Add a Jacket & Mesh Ballet Flats for Fall Transition

Jacket (also in denim or similar) | Tee (or another cute option) | Skirt (6) | Bag (similar) | Shoes (or these)

Once we’re in the middle of second summer (aka Fall in Philadelphia) I might bust out a lightweight jacket like this one. That exact color is sold out at Free People, but it is SO freaking good I’m considering the red (or denim??), also. I wore it on the plane overseas and this shape and fit look amazing with every length of skirt or dress.

These Vivaia flats, BTW, are wool, but aren’t too hot on your feet, even in the south of Spain. They’re supposed to be fully washable, too – I’m going to give it a go and report back. They were bananas comfortable the whole trip (and were the shoes I wore on travel days, both plane and train).
