Egg Drop Soup Ingredients Overview

This soup uses a few simple ingredients that pack big flavors. A light chicken broth forms the base, flavored with toasted sesame oil, soy sauce, and aromatics like ginger and spring onion.

Fresh vegetables like carrots and French beans add texture and color, while whisked eggs create those beautiful, silky ribbons that give the soup it’s signature look. Garnished with spring onion greens and a drizzle of sesame oil, it’s both vibrant and comforting!

Richa’s Top Tips

  1. Perfect Egg Ribbons: Pour the whisked egg slowly in a circular motion while stirring the soup to create thin, silky swirls.
  2. Use Toasted Sesame Oil: It gives the soup its authentic flavor, but regular cooking oil works in a pinch.
  3. Make It Your Own: Add other veggies like mushrooms, corn, or spinach for variety. You can even toss in cooked chicken or shrimp for a protein boost.
  4. Adjust the Seasoning: Light soy sauce is milder, but if you like deeper flavors, use a smaller amount of dark soy sauce.
