How to Apply Curly Clip-Ins for a Natural Blend

To get a seamless look with your curly clip-in hair extensions, you’ll need to apply them well. The good news is that blending clip-in curly hair extensions is easier than you might think. The key is to work with your natural texture, instead of against it:

  • Step 1: prep your hair

Make sure your hair is clean and dry. If you need a little refresh, lightly mist your curls with water or leave-in conditioner.

  • Step 2: section your hair

Starting at the nape of your neck, use a tail comb to section your hair horizontally. Clip the top half up and out of the way.

  • Step 3: clip in your wefts

Apply the widest wefts at the back of your head, just above the nape. This will ensure fullness, before you work upwards using the smaller pieces around the sides and crown.

  • Step 4: blend the curls

Gently separate your natural curls with your fingers and blend them into the extensions. Avoid dry brushing, as this can leave you with frizz. Instead, you should brush curly clip-in hair extensions only when they’re wet, using conditioner.

  • Step 5: shape and fluff

Once all your clip-in curly hair extensions have been attached, you’ll be able to shake out the curls and shape everything with your hands.

As you do all this, there are a few things you ought to bear in mind:

  • The lengths of curly clip-in hair extensions appear shorter because of the curl pattern. A 26″ set looks closer to 23″ when curly.
  • Thick hair may need 1-1.5 packs for full length coverage.
  • Curly extensions can seem slightly darker than straight hair pieces, even they’re the same shade.
  • Cliphair’s full-head curly clip-ins are made from single drawn Remy human hair, which helps ensure a natural finish.

Ponytail Half Updo

This half-up ponytail is one of the most playful and bouncy clip-in hairstyles. It’s perfect for showing off all that curly texture at work, or on weekends or date nights.

Here’s how to create it:

  1. Attach your curly clip-in extensions to your natural hair, focusing on the back of the head for volume.
  2. Once your clip-ins are in, create a wide triangle shape from behind your ears to the top of your crown. This is going to be your half-up section, so secure it with a hair tie for now.
  3. You’ll want to make this half-up section lovely and voluminous. So, check that it’s standing upright and tug the hair around your head, to give your hair a luscious appearance all round.
  4. If you don’t have naturally curly hair, now is the moment to go to town with your curlers to create bouncy small curls.

Your work with this look won’t necessarily be done there. Why not add a scrunchy or a clip to wrap around and show off your high pony? This is the perfect way to achieve an easy style that also draws attention to your curls.

Another option for adding drama is to pair this look with one of Cliphair’s ponytail extensions.

Pulled-Back Braids with Curly Ends

Braids and curly hair extensions are a dream combination. Braids look stunning with curly texture, because the curls add beautiful movement at the ends.

This style keeps the front neat, while allowing your curly hair extensions to shine through the lengths. It’s a great look if you want to show off your curls, but you don’t want them in your face.

If you fancy trying out this hairstyle, don’t put the serum on, as braiding is so much harder with serum. Brush your locks and add some hair mousse instead.

Here are the steps to pull off this style:

  1. Install your curly clip-in extensions evenly.
  2. Separate your hair along your hairline from the centre to your right temple. Divide it into two and create an amazing fishtail braid all the way to the nape of your neck.
  3. Before you secure the braid with a clear hair tie, tug on the sections to give it an even more luscious appearance.
  4. Repeat the process on the other side so they are symmetrical, and the end hair ties are in line. Hold the hair ties together and grab a few strands of hair behind them, wrapping around the hair ties to conceal them.
  5. You will have the ends still sticking out. So, fishtail braid them together to nearly the end, and secure it with a clean hair tie. Wrap some strands of hair around your hair tie to conceal it.
  6. To finish, spritz with some alcohol-free hairspray. That’s it! You are ready to rock this look even at a formal occasion.

You can get creative with this style and braid only one side of your hair, or just the top. Regardless, the contrast between the sleek braids and soft curly ends gives this look an effortlessly romantic feel. It’s perfect for festivals, weddings, or “just because”.

The Twist Pull-Back

If braiding isn’t your thing, that’s fine! Twists provide an easy shortcut to a polished style. It’s an elegant style that keeps hair off your face, at the same time as showing off those curls; the ideal combination for a casual occasion.

Possibly the best thing about the twist pull-back is that you’ll only need hairpins to create it. Here’s how to pull off this look in just five minutes:

  1. Clip in your extensions and blend the curls.
  2. Create a shallow centre part and take sections either side of your parting.
  3. Divide each section into two and twist them around each other, before pinning the end in place.
  4. Repeat on the other side if you want a symmetrical look.
  5. Tug gently at the twists for a softer finish.

There are some easy variations you can try for this one:

  • Add pearl pins or clips for weddings and parties.
  • Create a single side twist for a softer everyday look.
  • Leave a few curls loose around your face for extra softness.

This style is forgiving with curly texture. The twists hide any slight inconsistencies, with the loose curls doing the rest of the work.

Romantic Halo Braid

Serious “goddess” vibes are given off by this crown-style braid. The pairing of a halo braid with curly extensions produces a soft, fairytale texture.

Take these steps to make it a reality:

  1. Apply your curly extensions all around your head for even volume.
  2. Create a centre part going back to your crown. Then, take a one-inch section (roughly a few curls) to the left of your part, twist them loosely, pinch them a little to add volume, and pin at the back of your head.
  3. Repeat this process on the other side, but cross the end of this twist over the bobby pin at the back to conceal it, before you pin this twist in place as well. You will notice this is a criss-cross twist design.
  4. Continue creating the twists, crossing them under and pinning them in place until you reach the nape of your neck.

Remember that as Cliphair’s curly extensions come pre-curled, there’s no need for heat styling. In fact, curly clip-in hair pieces should not be heat styled.

As a quicker alternative for added fullness around the crown, Cliphair’s halo hair extensions might interest you.

Messy Curly Bun

Are you seeking a style that looks polished, but not too perfect for those busy days in (or out of) the office? In that case, curly clip-in extensions with a messy bun could be the ideally soft and textured combination for you.

Rustle this one up by following these steps:

  1. Install your curly clip-ins, focusing on the lower half of your head.
  2. Gather all your hair into a loose ponytail at mid-height.
  3. Twist the ponytail and wrap it into a bun, leaving some ends poking out.
  4. Pull out a few face-framing curls, and mess it up slightly with your fingers.
  5. Secure with pins, not worrying about it looking too neat.

This voluminous bun is a quick and easy option for second-day curls. Ultimately, it works as well for casual coffee runs as it does for formal evening events.

Half-Up, Half-Down Curly Look

When in doubt, there’s nothing wrong with going half-up, half-down. One of the easiest curly clip-in hairstyles to create, it also just happens to exude effortless glam. Make this one your go-to look if you want to show off length while keeping hair off your face.

Create it with these steps:

  1. Install your curly clip-ins, with extra wefts around the crown for volume.
  2. Take the top section of hair from temple to temple.
  3. Tease lightly at the crown if you want more height.
  4. Use a clip, claw clip, or elastic to secure the top section.
  5. Allow the rest of your curls to flow naturally down your back.

You’ll soon fall in love with the combination of volume at the roots and flowing curls below; it’s a super flattering style almost whatever your face shape.

Caring for Your Curly Clip-In Extensions

Looking after curly hair extensions from UK-based brands like Cliphair is straightforward when you know the rules:

  • Brush your curly clip-ins only when wet, with plenty of conditioner. Dry brushing is a recipe for frizz.
  • Cliphair’s curly clip-in hair extensions in the UK cannot be heat styled. So, make sure you don’t straighten or curl them with heated tools.
  • Our curly clip-ins also can’t be coloured, so this is something else to avoid.
  • After washing, the curl pattern may relax slightly. This is normal.
  • The colours of curly hair extensions can appear slightly darker than straight versions.
