Chefs’ recs: where chefs eat in London

Many chefs we spoke to recommended the Bar Express Lunch at Michelin-starred modern Italian restaurant, Luca, in Clerkenwell. The menu is served from midday until 2pm and comes in at a reasonable (remember it’s got a Michelin star!) £32 for two courses and £38 for starter, main and dessert.

Here we started with the Jerusalem artichoke dish with cauliflower mushrooms and tropea onion, but the star of the show was the braised Hereford beef, smoked potatoes, winter mushrooms and roscoff onions.

Best breakfast

Luca’s chef Rob Chambers recommended his favourite breakfast in the capital at modern European Hide in Mayfair. With a menu featuring the likes of truffle-smothered scrambled eggs, a scorched banana and pecan croissant, blueberry and crème crue French toast and an oozing croque Madame, find out what we thought when we popped in for breakfast.

Best mince pie

Hide restaurant’s Executive Chef Josh Angus tells us where he believes the best mince pie in the capital can be found.
