Brioni said design director Norbert Stumpfl has stepped down after seven years at the Italian brand, the latest in a slew of changes at Kering-owned labels that have accelerated since the arrival of Luca de Meo as chief executive of the French group.
Stumpfl joined Brioni in 2018 following a year at French house Berluti. He also worked previously for Louis Vuitton, Adidas and Balenciaga. Rome-based Brioni, which was founded in 1945 in the wake of the end of the Second World War, has been part of Kering since 2011.
“During his tenure at Brioni, Norbert interpreted with precision the concept of lightness and discretion, contributing to the evolution of the masculine wardrobe with a modern approach that honoured tradition,” Brioni said in a statement on Friday, without naming a successor for the outgoing designer.
Stumpfl’s exit comes the day after Dario Vitale left Versace and is the latest in a long list of recent changes among creative directors at European fashion houses. At Kering, changes made by de Meo since he arrived two and half months ago, include naming Francesca Bellettini CEO of Gucci.
