Alkali Hair Studio – Cheers to the Magic of Connecting – Forsyth Woman Magazine

Amazing experiences don’t happen by accident at Alkali Hair Studio in the historic West End neighborhood of Winston-Salem. While you’re enjoying your golden moment of relaxation and self-care, there’s so much going on behind the scenes that brings the magic together!

Everything that shapes the Alkali experience comes from authentic connections, including positive relationships among the stylists that spill over to the most down-to-Earth, impeccable customer service around. For Owner and CEO Amber Woodall, those connections that she’s worked tirelessly to nurture – including deep respect and camaraderie among the staff – mean everything.

“We want clients to know and understand our values, how we prioritize mental health challenges with flexibility and support from management to avoid burnout throughout the staff and all the extra efforts we make to provide an experience that’s just as meaningful to our clients,” she shares.

One of the vital ways Amber supports her super talented staff is by providing benefits that aren’t necessarily common in the industry. Stylists receive paid time off as well as unlimited, unpaid time off. Paid educational and growth opportunities are available, so stylists can continue to excel in their field, and the studio invests in customer service training so that both stylists and support staff exhibit the same high level of service to all Alkali clients.

Alkali Hair Salon is also an inclusive salon, their pricing is gender neutral and the staff is dedicated to providing a safe space for all! In supporting the community and beyond, they are a carbon neutral salon and member of Greencircle Salons, which means they are a certified sustainable salon – one of only three in the Winston-Salem area. Every item used in your experience is later recycled, and you can rest assured that all products you come in contact with are high-performing, eco-friendly, cruelty free, 100% vegan or vegetarian, and free of phthalates and parabens.

Amber and her team were extremely grateful to be able to support North Carolina victims of Hurricane Helene last October by hosting two “Cut-athon” fundraisers and encouraging clients to contribute monetary and supply donations as well. The studio raised $5,000, matched by $5,000 from partner LMI Builders of Winston-Salem, and $10,000 was sent directly to those NC neighbors in need.

“We are so honored and humbled to be able to provide direct help,” adds Amber. “Every cent we raised has been hand-delivered to families in Sugar Grove, NC, and physical donation items were delivered to a local community center.”

Amber is also proud that her team’s hard work and dedication to their craft has been officially recognized, as Alkali Hair Studio was named one of Salon Today’s Top 200 Salons in North America for three years in a row!

Even the space, with its soothing natural light, lends itself to a sense of peace and harmony. Look for Alkali Studio to grow in March of 2025, with a planned expansion that includes added spa features. Indeed, there is so much more joy to come!
