So, I am really leaning into my new-found love of bermuda length denim shorts, or jorts. Specifically, these Madewell’s Essex Raw Hem Long Baggy Shorts that I’m wearing non-stop.
I’m looking at them as less of a trend and more of a summer wardrobe overhaul. They are just so dang comfortable and they are so easy to move and live in. If I’m not feeling my thighs that particular day, I don’t have to show them; I don’t have to worry about sitting in a hot chair and burning the back of my legs, and best yet; I don’t have to shave past the knee (it really is the little things). The extra length has really given me the confidence to not stress about my summer style in a way that feels very freeing for me.
And, this particular Madewell pair I’m wearing are just about as soft as a pair of sweatpants…or sweat jorts, if you will.
8 Cute & Easy Outfit Ideas With Bermuda-Length Denim Shorts
Another great thing about jorts? So far, they go with just about everything. My one big worry with bermuda length denim shorts was how to style them, but I conquered that fear pretty easily by just trying on a bunch of different outfit combinations and realizing they effortlessly upgraded every top and shoe combo I tried them with. So, here’s a ton of fun ways to I’ve been wearing them lately.
Outfit 1: Tucked-In Tee + Colorful Sneakers

This combo right here is going to be one of my most worn looks of the summer I can already feel it. First of all, as a neurodivergent, I am SUPER picky when it comes to what t-shirts I will wear and this Favorite Daughter tee passed my stringent comfort test with flying colors. It’s super lightweight and so so soft. It’s also the perfect length to tuck into shorts without any added bulge. I love! You can’t go wrong with pairing a fitted, retro-inspired tee and sneakers with some bermudas.
Fit Notes: This tee is a soft, lightweight, jersey fabric and fits true to size. The denim shorts also fit true to size and are 100% cotton. They have a raw hem and are machine-washable (they’ve been through the wash once already and hold up well). The Adidas are some of the softest/comfiest sneakers I’ve ever owned but they run a little large. Order a half-size down.
Outfit 2: Short, Swingy Top + Barely There Sandals

Ahoy, sailor!! I couldn’t resist this super cute, cropped and flowy Maeve Collared Tie-Front Top. Not only is it super comfortable; it also has the most adorable vintage-inspired details like the embroidered collar and the floral ribbon. It’s gotten 88 almost 5-star reviews and I totally get why. I’m making good on my promise to wear only clothing that makes me smile this summer. The short, swingy, casual, yet sort of ‘put-together’ vibe of this top looks so cute with these longer-length denim cut-off shorts.
Fit Notes: This Maeve top is 100% cotton; with a 92% cotton and 8% linen contrast. It is pullover styling and is cropped with a length of 19.75″. The sandals are Shana’s favorites: Reformation’s Lake Flat Sandals in ‘Espresso Suede and are very comfortable.
Outfit 3: A Fitted, Floral Strappy Tank + Sexy Flat Sandals

I am obsessed with this Linen-Blend Tie-Strap Floral Cami from Gap that is actually a part of a matching set (with a beautiful linen blend maxi skirt). I got the whole set and love it so much not only because it is pretty and super comfortable but it’s also proved to be very versatile and works perfectly when I’m looking to dress up my jorts. A slightly romantic, feminine strappy camisole somehow offsets the relaxed vibe of the longer-length denim shorts, and works perfectly together.
Fit Notes: Never thought I’d get to the point in life where I am calling my Croc sandals sexy, but here we are. They are also extremely comfortable, come in a ton of colors and are under $40! Reviews for the floral tie-strap cami call it slightly small, if you are in between sizes, order a size up.
Outfit 4: Crochet Top + Black Sandals (Or Anything Heavier Visually)

Crochet tops are trending this summer and this Desigual sweater is definitely one of my favorite crochet options I’ve found so far. I am really impressed with the styling, the fit and the comfort level of this Desigual piece. It’s my first time getting anything by the Spanish brand: Desigual – but I am a huge fan of their artistic, high-quality pieces. The slightly cropped fit and fun retro-inspired crochet pattern works perfectly with the longer-length denim shorts with the raw hems.

Fit Notes: This geo-pattern crochet sweater has a boxy, slightly cropped fit. It’s 61% cotton and 39% acrylic and it has a oversized fit, which I love.
Outfit 5: Long, Flowy Top + Sexy Flat Sandals

The longer length of this top somehow works proportionally when paired with longer-length denim shorts. I love this billowy, blue-inspired floral print top by Free People. It is aptly named the ‘The Santorini Print Embroidered Puff Sleeve Tunic Top’ and it is definitely giving me ‘Greece Summer Vacay’ vibes. I have no idea why someone gave it only a one-star review on Nordstrom’s site, maybe because it runs large, even for Free People, which tends to always run large. It’s also 30% off right now at Nordstrom.

Fit Notes: This billowy, ‘voluminous’ puff-sleeve top definitely runs large. I am wearing a medium and will likely exchange for a size small. It’s 100% cotton and has a square neck and a baby-doll hem.
Outfit 6: Heavier, Textured Top + Thick, Black Sandals

Shana linked to this chic twofer tank/tube top on our Facebook page and I had to buy it immediately. It’s rare to find a top that is this unique and also as functional as it is comfortable. It also gives me Reformation vibes but for under $60. The heavier texture, plus the contrast black straps work well when offset by thick, black wrap sandals.

Fit Notes: This By Anthropologie Twofer Tank & Tube Top also comes in a black and white option. It’s 97% cotton, 3% elastane which gives it the perfect fitted styling. It’s 11.5″ in length so it’s the perfect length to NOT tuck in.
Outfit 7: Cropped Printed Cami + Any Sandals

This whole outfit features some of my most worn pieces of the moment: Wayf’s Josefina Mix Print Crop Top + Madewell’s The Essex Raw Hem Long Baggy Denim Shorts + my ankle-wrap black flat sandals. The fun, retro-inspired floral print of this top, plus the slightly cropped length adds just the right amount of interest to the otherwise casual raw-hem denim shorts.

Fit Notes: I am honestly so perplexed as to why this cropped cami from Wayf only has three stars on Nordstrom. It is one of my favorite/most-worn tops of the past year and I love everything about it. I think the quality is top notch, especially given the affordable price tag. It’s 97% cotton, 3% elastane, so it has a litle bit of stretch to it. I love it so much I will probably buy it in red too.

This top just makes me SO incredibly happy. It’s all in the little details with this Maeve Linen Blend Embroidered Strawberry Tie-Front top but the embroidered strawberries just make me smile. I will probably wear it with a tank-top underneath it, but…also, maybe it’s a belly-button kind of summer for me! This whole outfit is going to be my vibe this summer. I love how this super interesting and unique top pairs so easily with my bermuda shorts and ankle wrap sandals.

Fit Notes: The only downside to this gorgeous Maeve top is that it only comes in one size. It’s obviously cropped and tie-front but the quality is outstanding.
