Holiday outfits don’t have to be all about sequins and dresses – sometimes an unexpected move can end up feeling just as festive. And the unexpected move I didn’t realize I needed? Relaxed statement jeans. Think: loose, comfortable, and easy to wear…but with just enough sparkle, studs, or details to feel really special.
Jeans like these are perfect for a casual-fancy mix – the kind of juxtaposition that can make an outfit infinitely more interesting. I’ve been playing around with mine – pairing these sparkly boyfriend-y jeans with ladylike tops and polished heels—or giving oversized shapes a little edge with something unexpectedly sexy.

The best relaxed statement jeans should be comfy enough for all-night wear, but glitzy enough for NYE. Even when paired with a boring sweater, they bring a holiday vibe in a way that feels effortless and cool.
My Favorite Relaxed, Statement Jeans Right Now
For holiday outfits, I wanted to pair my relaxed, statement jeans with warmer footwear, specifically my black, heeled booties. They’re easy, comfortable, and more practical than heeled sandals. So each of these outfits below feature the same relaxed jeans + heeled boots combo.
1. With A Fitted, Ladylike Cardigan

There’s almost nothing I like more than these fitted, ladylike cardigans with looser, boyish jeans. Add some embellishments to the jeans and the whole look just gets more fun – an easy win.
The particular cardigan is Reformation (so, sustainably made from 95% recycled cashmere, 5% regular cashmere) and has a really sexy, fitted shape. It’s been one of my most-worn pieces as of late.
2. With An Oversized, Sporty Sweater + Glam Accessories

I love making sporty pieces fancy (don’t know why this works so well but it really, really does), and festive, embellished jeans look great with festive sweaters. And there’s something about the oversized sweater + oversized jean combo that works (but pointy toe heels and fancy accessories are a must to keep the look intentional, not sloppy).

3. With Sequins!

Of course, if you don’t want to go the casual route, just pair the jeans with an all-out sequin top. Such a girl-next-door vibe…but fancy.

4. With A Cute, Patterned Top

While any silky top would work with these kinds of jeans, I do especially love a pretty patterned top. And this one is great – the boxy shape is exactly what I want to wear with everything right now, and the back has a pretty peekaboo (but is still bra-friendly). Under $100, too.
5. Go Monochrome

There’s nothing more chic (or easy) than a monochromatic outfit – it’s almost a cheat. The trick is to vary the textures, and statement denim usually has a mix of texture built right in. If your statement jeans are ivory or black, a monochromatic look is really easy. But if your statement jeans are more of a blue-jean-blue…I’ve found that Ref’s cashmere sweaters in ‘danube’ give a slight monochromatic vibe when paired with denim. There’s a boyfriend sweater (that’s easy to tuck) and a pretty great v-neck sweater.
6. With A Classic, Black Turtleneck (Tucked In)

I feel like I’ve been wearing some form of this turtleneck-and-statement-necklace situation since 2001 (haha) but I stand by it! A classic, for sure. And such an easy holiday outfit with some embellished jeans.
