Staph
No, not millennial jargon. Also known as impetigo, this type causes crusty red lesions and boils, usually on the arms and legs.
How to get it: It is highly contagious and can be spread by touching infected people or equipment they use.
Treatment: For antibiotics, contact your dermatologist as soon as possible. Or avoid it in the first place by wiping down gym equipment with damp cloths before you start exercising.
Acne Mechanica
Basically, these are exercise pimples – they are caused by heat, pressure and friction and appear on the shoulders, back and head.
How to get it: Working out in tight workout clothes or protective gear and sweating.
Treatment: It does not respond well to OTC treatments. Contact your dermatologist.
