11 Top Shows for Women Over 50 to Stream

Do you remember years ago when you could just sit down in front of the TV, and there were only a handful of channel options? Yes, there were fewer choices, but it was also easier to know what to watch (and where to find the shows that everyone was talking about).

Television watching is more complicated now, with so many different streaming channels and what feels like an infinite number of show choices. But don’t worry, if you are having trouble deciding what you might like, here are 11 series that we highly recommend you tune into:

Shrinking (Apple+)

Shrinking is a quirky comedy series about a therapist who ditches the usual formalities and starts telling it like it is. His refreshingly blunt approach turns therapy sessions into unexpectedly funny—and sometimes touching—moments, as both he and his clients navigate life’s ups and downs with a bit more honesty and humor. Harrison Ford is a very believable psychologist and represents the challenges of aging beautifully.

Landman (Paramount+)

Landman is a gritty drama set against the high-stakes backdrop of West Texas oilfields. Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, the series follows Tommy Norris (played brilliantly by Billy Bob Thornton), a tough, no-nonsense landman fighting to keep his oil operation afloat amid dangerous deals and volatile family drama. With powerhouse performances from heavyweights like Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, and Ali Larter, Landman offers an unflinching look at the cutthroat world of modern oil production. Watching Billy Bob Thornton in one of his best performances to date is worth the price of the subscription. Easily the best new show of the season.

Lioness (Paramount+)

Lioness, now in its second season, is another series from Taylor Sheridan that stars Zoe Saldaña as a bold and resourceful leader. Tasked with dismantling corrupt power structures while grappling with personal demons, she fights to carve out justice in an unforgiving landscape. The supporting cast includes big-name stars like Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman.

The Diplomat (Netflix)

Kerri Russel is the start of The Diplomat, a high-stakes political drama that follows a seasoned career diplomat as she navigates global crises, delicate negotiations, and personal challenges. Her relationship with her husband Amid volatile international relations and unexpected threats, she must balance duty with the personal sacrifices demanded by her role, revealing the human cost of power on the world stage. Her husband, also a diplomat, presents an intriguing element as he’s not only charming but uses questionable methods to assist his wife.

A Man on the Inside (Netflix)

A Man on the Inside is an American comedy series created by Michael Schur. It stars Ted Danson as a retired gentleman who reinvents himself as an amateur private investigator. When retirement turns unexpectedly adventurous, he embarks on quirky investigations in his small-town community, uncovering peculiar mysteries and humorous misadventures along the way. The show blends Michael Schur’s clever wit with Ted Danson’s unmistakable charm, proving that a new chapter in life can be just as exciting as any other.

The Night Agent (Netflix)

The Night Agent is a political thriller on Netflix that follows a low-level FBI agent working in a hidden White House basement. When a desperate call forces him to confront a high-stakes conspiracy, he finds himself racing against powerful forces—and even time—to expose a dangerous plot lurking at the heart of government. Gabriel Basso makes a believable character in his role as the Night Agent. Worth watching especially with any male in your life.

White Lotus (Max)

The White Lotus return may be the most highly anticipated show this season. If you missed the first two seasons, you might start there. Now in its third season on Max, The White Lotus transports us to a new, dazzling resort in Thailand where the glittering lives of the rich collide with the messy realities of the staff who serve them. With Mike White’s trademark wit and dark humor, the season unpacks secrets, simmering tensions, and unexpected alliances in a paradise that’s anything but perfect.

Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix)

If you are a mystery reader, you have no doubt read Michael Connely’s The Lincoln Lawyer. The series is every bit as good. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo makes a great Mickey Haller defense attorney facing his most complex case yet. As layers of corruption and personal demons come to light, Haller navigates treacherous legal battles and shifting alliances, forcing him to confront the very essence of justice. The season ramps up the tension with unexpected twists both in and out of the courtroom, making every decision a high-stakes gamble.

Ripley (Netflix)

Ripley on Netflix is a sleek, suspenseful thriller that reimagines the iconic con artist from Patricia Highsmith’s novels. The series follows a charming and cunning antihero who effortlessly infiltrates high society, only to find that every secret he uncovers plunges him deeper into a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With its stylish storytelling and unpredictable twists, Ripley keeps you guessing at every turn.

The Perfect Couple (Netflix)

The Perfect Couple is the perfect show to binge. From the fabulous opening dance scene on the beach to the host of characters, the Perfect Couple is pretty perfect, and none more so than Nicole Kidman who plays a famous author and wife/mother to the clan. The witty dramedy series follows a seemingly ideal pair whose flawless exterior hides a cascade of quirky misadventures and heartfelt moments.

Nobody Wants This (Netflix)

Nobody Wants This is such a surprise and a delight. It’s a quirky Netflix dark comedy that follows an unexpected romance between a devoted rabbi and a fiercely independent agnostic single woman. As their worlds collide, they navigate humorous yet heartfelt challenges, questioning faith, tradition, and modern love along the way. Settle in with a nice glass of wine or mocktail and enjoy!

And here’s a bonus suggestion. If you missed watching Younger when it came out in 2017 as I did, you might consider adding it to your list. Watch several shows before you pronounce judgment. While the subject matter may appear to be for a younger audience, you will find it well-written and cast. There are 7 seasons so lots of binging!
